Our story
From the summit room to the rice mill
Founded in Nairobi in 2025, with a pan-African mandate
Before ENKOP, Lucy Nyoike’s work was getting institutions to commit. She was Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation Lead for the Africa Climate Summit under the Government of Kenya, and held roles at the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, The Rockefeller Foundation and FSD Africa, most recently as Assistant Director in the CEO’s Office.
A commitment is the start. Between a pledge and a working project sit the deal structure, the partners who all have to agree, and the supply chain that someone has to go and check. ENKOP was founded in Nairobi in 2025 to do that part of the work.
The team brings the rest of it. Zecharia Mwangi worked on carbon removal projects, biochar and enhanced rock weathering among them, at Verst Carbon. Howard Piwang has designed and deployed hybrid bioenergy-solar mini-grids in Uganda, Botswana, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia. Mercy Wanjiku leads ENKOP’s communications.
The work so far is on the record. For Phase 1 of Verst Carbon’s Africa Biochar Aggregation Platform, completed in March 2026, the team ran 1,013 farmer interviews in Tanzania. In July 2026 it inspected a biochar supply chain at Mwea for Pure Plant Organics, and published what it had not yet seen beside what it had.
The name ENKOP stands for Ecosystems, Networks and Knowledge for Opportunity and Partnerships.
